Veterans Day Ceremony

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY TO TAKE PLACE AT NATURE PARK
 
The 7th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the Veterans Tribute located on Ring Road inside the Nature Park.
 
“We enjoy welcoming the community to celebrate our active duty and Military Veterans each year,” said Mayor Edna Berger. “We are blessed to have a beautiful park to memorialize their contributions.”
 
The 2017 ceremony is a coordinated effort between the City of Elizabethtown and American Legion Hardin Post 113.
 
“From one veteran to another, let me be the first to say thank you for your service to this great nation,” said John Saunders American Legion Commander Hardin Post 113. “We want to welcome all to attend and we will have free lunch provided for attendees at our Post following the ceremony.”
 
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11. Posting of the Colors will be held sharply at 11:00 a.m. to commemorate the signing of the Armistice (first Veterans Day) on November 11, 1918 at the end of World War I. The keynote speaker will be Brigadier General Robert W. Bennett, Fort Knox, KY.

GARDENER’S Toolbox Series Winter 2017

How to Grow: Holiday House Plants - Nov 15, 6 p.m. - $5  How do you keep those special holiday plants alive and then get them to re-bloom for the holidays?  Understand how to maintain poinsettia, holiday cactus, amaryllis, paper whites and orchids through the holidays and beyond.
 
 
How to Register:

· Or call (270) 765-4121 and talk to the receptionist.  Then mail in your payment.

You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.  All classes have a maximum number of participants. 

Payment for each of the Gardener’s Toolbox classes are required to be enrolled TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.

Cancellations will be fully refunded TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. Please let us know as early as possible if you have to cancel, we probably have others on a wait list.

Light Up West Point

Light up West Point has expanded to include a full afternoon of events December 2, 2017
 
12:00 pm to 6:00 pm the West Point, Kentucky History Museum will be open to all guest for refreshments and plenty of West Point history along with a local art show.
 
2:30 pm will be the official dedication and opening of the 1.5 mile Samuel Pearman Memorial Trail which will become a connecting trail to form a loop around West Point and could in the future have connectors to the Louisville Loop as well as connections with trails to Radcliff, Fort Knox, and Meade County. Following a short dedication, there will be a walk, bike, or ride on the new trail. In 1776, Samuel Pearman and a group of 12 men built a log cabin within what is now the West Point National Register Historical District. This was the first attempt at settlement in Hardin County. Some of Samuel Pearman's descendants are expected to be the ceremony. To find out more information about Samuel Pearman, a local historical figure, come to the dedication and visit the History Museum.
 
6:00 pm The Light Up West Point Parade will travel from 13th and Main Streets to 4th and Main Streets in West Point stopping at the decorated Train Caboose that sits in the town center. There will be entertainment accompanying the “Light up Ceremony.”

Holiday Wreath Workshop - Dec 4 and Dec 6—$5— This is an open workshop from Noon to 8 p.m. on each day.  Bring $5 cash for each wreath you would like to make.  Bring with you: pruning shears, gardening gloves, decorative ribbons, and other accessories that you would like to incorporate into your wreath.  All other supplies are included in the class fee.

All through the month of December, members of the West Point, Kentucky Revitalization Movement will continue to go door to door with their community needs survey and giving the citizens of West Point important information on upcoming projects.
