Kentucky Gives Day

THREE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE DAYS A YEAR, SUPPORTERS OF FEEDING AMERICA, KENTUCKY’S HEARTLAND ARE WORKING HARD TO FIGHT HUNGER IN OUR REGION.  ON APRIL 18 – KENTUCKY GIVES DAY – YOU CAN JOIN THESE SUPPORTERS AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE TOO.  YOUR DONATION WILL HELP PROVIDE FOOD TO CHILDREN IN NEED THROUGH FEEDING AMERICA’S BACKPACK PROGRAM.  THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES WEEEKEND FOOD TO CHILDREN WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE GO HUNGRY WHEN SCHOOL MEALS AREN’T AVAILABLE.

How to Grow: Daylilies—April 4, 6 pm. COST: $5  Daylilies are  a favorite garden flower.  Come and  see how to incorporate these one-day wonders into a perennial garden or landscape.

How to Grow: Tomatoes—April 19, 6 pm. COST: $5  Wow! How do you pick your next favorite tomato variety? Let’s talk about favorites and new favorites. Learn how to have the first tomato on the block. Get a few plants to try and test. 

How to Register: 

· Go to http://hardin.ca.uky.edu/content/line-class-registration to sign up for any class.  You can also now make your payment on this page! 

· Or call (270) 765-4121 and talk to the receptionist.  Then mail in your payment.

· You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.  All classes have a maximum number of participants.  When this number is reached, there will be a waiting list.

Payment for each of the Gardener’s Toolbox classes are required to be enrolled TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.

Cancellations will be fully refunded TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. Please let us know as early as possible if you have to cancel, we probably have others on a wait list.

HOW TO GROW Classes: If you would like to attend the class but do NOT want the supplies, there is the option of not paying the class supply fee. Please notify the front desk when registering.

The 10th annual free oil change for single moms will be given on the last Saturday of April , April 29 from 8am-3pm at Harvestland Community Church in Hodgenville located at 4761 Lincoln Parkway.  There will also be a free brunch served and free child care provided by child care workers with background checks.  Any questions? Make this beautiful Lone Starburst block (finished size 12” block) as you learn the basics of paper piecing. Some sewing experience would be beneficial. Pick out your favorite colors and make this block that can be used as a quilt center, a pillow, table topper, or whatever you can envision.

Major League Baseball Jr Home Run Derby

Larue County Youth Baseball & Softball will be hosting a free Major League Baseball, Jr Home Run Derby Competition for area youth on May 13 with sign ups starting at 10:00 am.  Boys and girls are divided into two age divisions: 12U and 14U and will have a chance to advance through three levels of competition.  Local champions from both age groups advance to regionals, regional champions advance to the National finals which will take place during the 2017 MLB All-Star Week in Miami FL.  For more information please contact Maureen Denham at 270-991-2003

Glendale Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Come to the Glendale Springfest on Saturday, May 20th, and help the Glendale Lions Club and Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen.
 
The Annual Glendale Lions Club Pancake Breakfast will take place at the firehouse that morning and will sell pizza during Springfest.
 
They will be collecting non-perishable food items for KY Harvest and The Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen, bring donations to the Gazebo Band Stand at the Glendale Parking or the Warm Blessings Booth.
