Gardeners Toolbox Series (May)

Attracting Pollinators—May 1, 6 pm. COST: $5  What are the key ingredients in attracting butterflies and bees to a garden? Discover the “secret” sauce in this talk about plants that draw in the birds, bees and butterflies. 

How to Register: 

· Go to http://hardin.ca.uky.edu/content/line-class-registration to sign up for any class.  You can also now make your payment on this page! 

· Or call (270) 765-4121 and talk to the receptionist.  Then mail in your payment.

· You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.  All classes have a maximum number of participants.  When this number is reached, there will be a waiting list.

Payment for each of the Gardener’s Toolbox classes are required to be enrolled TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. You will be registered on a first pay, first registered basis.

Cancellations will be fully refunded TWO WEEKS prior to the class date. Please let us know as early as possible if you have to cancel, we probably have others on a wait list.

HOW TO GROW Classes: If you would like to attend the class but do NOT want the supplies, there is the option of not paying the class supply fee. Please notify the front desk when registering.

“Lone Starburst” Beginning Paper Piecing Class

Make this beautiful Lone Starburst block (finished size 12” block) as you learn the basics of paper piecing. Some sewing experience would be beneficial. Pick out your favorite colors and make this block that can be used as a quilt center, a pillow, table topper, or whatever you can envision.

Major League Baseball Jr Home Run Derby

Larue County Youth Baseball & Softball will be hosting a free Major League Baseball, Jr Home Run Derby Competition for area youth on May 13 with sign ups starting at 10:00 am.  Boys and girls are divided into two age divisions: 12U and 14U and will have a chance to advance through three levels of competition.  Local champions from both age groups advance to regionals, regional champions advance to the National finals which will take place during the 2017 MLB All-Star Week in Miami FL.  For more information please contact Maureen Denham at 270-991-2003

Glendale Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

Come to the Glendale Springfest on Saturday, May 20th, and help the Glendale Lions Club and Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen.
 
The Annual Glendale Lions Club Pancake Breakfast will take place at the firehouse that morning and will sell pizza during Springfest.
 
They will be collecting non-perishable food items for KY Harvest and The Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen, bring donations to the Gazebo Band Stand at the Glendale Parking or the Warm Blessings Booth.

Building Easy Salads –  Tuesday, May 16 at 6:00 Dayna Parrett from the Cooperative Extension Service will be joining us to talk about Building Easy Salads.    It is that time of year when we have lots of fresh produce available.  Dayna will be giving us great ideas for using the seasonal offerings to make healthy, fun and easy salads.   Please call to register for this class.

KY Career Center at Fort Knox is looking for military veterans

The KY Career Center at Fort Knox is looking for military veterans who are using the G.I. Bill or Veteran Affairs VOC Rehab program, and soldiers/veterans family members who are using the Post 99 G.I. Bill to attend school 3/4 or Full-Time.  The VA has a program that allows these veterans to become work-studies, working with organizations that serve veterans.  Work-studies are paid through the VA.  5 organizations on Fort Knox are currently in need of veterans.  Interested veterans can call Ron Anderson for more information at 502-624-1478.

19th Annual Garden Tour and Tea

19th Annual Garden Tour and Tea is Sunday, June 11th, at the Brown Pusey House, 128 North Main St. Elizabethtown from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10 payable at the door; there are no advance ticket sales. This is a rain or shine event. You begin with the tea at the Brown Pusey House where you will receive your ticket with a map to the other private gardens. Along with the tea at the Brown Pusey House you will be able to view the Cunningham Memorial Garden which will also have a club member’s fairy gardens on display and a horticulture display. After the events at the Brown Pusey House you will continue at your own pace in your own care to the other private gardens. Each garden a unique experience.
